My New Media Blog!

Hey Everyone!

So I am starting this new blog for one of my classes (almost everyone reading this blog already knows that because you're in my class). The class is on media and the family and I'm pretty dang excited for it. The purpose of this blog is for my to think and talk about media I encounter weekly and discuss topics related to media. Pretty fun stuff, right?

So I've been thinking about media a lot this week and what media is present in and affects my life. At first I was struggling a little to think of any...I've been so busy lately that the only media I could really think of was advertisements around outside and maybe my professors' power point presentations. I seriously hadn't even been listening to much music and my lap top has been broken. Originally I was thinking, "Man, media doesn't seem to be playing much of a part in my life"...Well, it was a fluke and I was wrong. Media DEFINITELY impacts my life. Yesterday, I was brutally informed of how media dramatically affects my bed time

(Random side note: There is a girl in the No Shhh Zone right now with the most MASSIVE beehive of hair on her head. Wow. This takes big utah hair to a new level. It's pretty impressive. I think she must have ordered one of those bump-its off of TV or something. Speaking of media, I kinda wish I had a camera right now to take a picture. Ok, sorry...bad tangent....)

Yesterday I had every intention of going to bed early so I could wake up early and be a productive student like I should be. I unfortunately made a bad mistake. After returning from a ward activity, I carelessly sat down on my living room couch where my roommates were watching some random thriller/suspense show on lifetime (P.S. If you want some classic entertainment, I highly suggest lifetime movies. It's ridiculous...but that will have to be another post). I began watching it with them. It was entertaining enough. The show ended, however, and then another episode came on...and of course no one moved. Even this, however, was not fatal. My death sentence came at the end of this episode. I should have left while I had the chance (actually I probably should have never sat down in the first place, but oh well). The episode ended and that's when it happened...

That's right. Project Runway. But not just that...a promise of an ALL-NEW EPISODE of Project Runway in the near future. That was the nail on my coffin. The whole situation has left me with many a question...like, "Why is this show so dang addictive anyway??" and "How can it be that hard to just push ONE button on a remote??" These questions are still puzzling me almost 24 hours later.

(Another random side note: I probably shouldn't have mentioned that thing about the big hair earlier...I'm sorry if I've offended any lovers of big hair, bump-its, or if you were the actual girl I saw in the No Shhh Zone. And if you are wondering what the heck a "bump-it" is, you should check out this website: https://www.bumpits.com/ ...or you should just watch more TV.....

Anyway...sorry, another tangent. Back to Project Runway.)

In the end, I didn't get to bed til quite a few hours after I had planned and as you can imagine, was also quite a bit less productive today than I had planned.

So why is it that you TV can suck in so easily? And why is it that we so easily lose our willpower to just turn it off and do what it is we should really be doing? I don't know, maybe it is just me that is weak against the evil forces of the television, but let me tell you, my friends...it is a powerful thing.

  1. Megan you may have offended a lot of my friends,a lot of them use the hair bumps. "The bigger the hair, the closer to God."

I found your media post interesting. I think what happens to you happens to the majority of us all. I often tell myself that I'm going to go to bed at a certain time, but Sports Center will keep me up way later than I intended on staying up.
