Ok, so I just want to write about how crazy the internet is...especially facebook. Not only can facebook help you to link up with old friends you haven't seen or heard from since elementary school, but it really can act as a social network in many other ways.
So yesterday my friends and I found ourselves on a Saturday evening, wanting to go out on the town. We didn't really have any ideas on where to go...and we're all pretty poor which made it even harder. So of course we turned to facebook. On facebook you have a page where you can view all the events you've been invited to. There is also a page where you can view all the events your facebook friends may be attending. This is where we found our entertainment for the evening. My roommate was looking at her facebook friend's events and found us a couple good options. We wrote down the addresses for a couple of them and began our adventure.

The first place we went to was a hip hop dance party in orem we saw advertised on the facebook events page. It looked like it had a lot of potential for fun and my friends and I always like to get our dance groove on. Unfortunately, when we actually got to the spot it looked pretty dang sketch, so we didn't end up going in. But it was ok...we still had more options.
We made our way to the next event: A poetry slam. We arrived at the house it was being hosted in and could see lots of people in the window. We didn't know who the house belonged to or who the heck would be inside, but we decided to be brave and head on in. We got inside and didn't know anyone. But that was ok, cause we're all brave, assertive girls. We made our way to the back of the room and sat in some chairs that had been set up. There was actually quite the turn out and a pretty good sized crowd.
All the lights went off except for a spot light that was pointed at the various performers who went up one by one. No clapping was allowed after performances, only snapping. Now, I'm not really a poetry fan to be honest, but this thing was actually way fun and a lot of the people's performances were really funny. My friends and I decided we definitely wanted to be in on similar upcoming events these people would be throwing. So before we left, I went up to the guy who seemed to be running the show and asked how I could get in on any future poetry action...of course, his response was... "Just look me up and send me a message on facebook!"
Who knew what craziness and social fun could come from facebook?

Facebook really is changing the way that we communicate and the way we live. I love being able to keep in touch with friends in that way. And you're right...it's a great way to figure out things to do. :-)
